Prep Instructions
Night Before Your Spray Tan
Shower & Exfoliate 12–18 Hours Before
Shower and exfoliate the night before your spray tan—ideally 12 to 18 hours prior. This allows your skin to regain its natural moisture balance.
Do not shower right before your appointment. A fresh shower can disrupt your skin’s pH balance, leaving it more prone to uneven tan development.Shaving & Waxing Guidelines
Do NOT shave the day of your tan.
If you must shave, avoid razors with moisture strips and skip the shaving creams or gels. If you use any of these, wash your legs again afterward with a spray tan-approved body wash to remove any residue.
Waxing gives the best results and should be done at least 48 hours before your appointment.
Exfoliation Tips
Spray tans only color the top layer of your skin—unlike UV tans which reach deeper layers. Proper exfoliation is essential to remove dead skin cells that would otherwise flake off, causing blotchy fading.I recommend:
My spray tan-friendly exfoliating scrub (avoid oil based scrubs and uneven loofa type items)
My Exfoliating Mitt, unlike anything you will purchase in the store and lasts up to 6 months. My products will ensure a deep EVEN exfoliation.
Avoid Products That Leave Residue
Many soaps, shampoos, conditioners, and body washes leave a film on your skin that can block your tan. After washing your hair and shaving, re-wash your body with an approved scrub or body wash designed for spray tanning.
Avoid scrubs that contain oils (specifically mineral oil)—these create a barrier that blocks the solution.Right Before Your Appointment
Do Not Shower Immediately Before Your Tan
If you're coming from work, practice, or feel the need to freshen up, do not shower—instead, use our pH balancing prep mitt ($6). This mitt will cleanse your skin, remove oils and sweat, and ensure a residue-free surface without disrupting your skin’s pH level.Avoid the Following Products
Do not apply any:Lotions
Perfume
Oils
Makeup
Sweat (yes, even sweat!)
A light deodorant is fine, but note the underarms may develop lighter.
For Dry Skin Clients
If you have very dry skin, reach out before your appointment. I offer one approved product that can be used after your shower and before your spray tan to help hydrate without interfering with your tan’s development.Important:
Do not try to remove lotions or makeup with baby wipes or makeup wipes—many contain oils or alcohols that disrupt the tanning process. I have safe, tan-approved products available at your appointment if needed.
What to Wear Based on Weather
Cold Weather: Loose sweats and UGG-style boots work best.
Hot Weather: Long, thin, loose, Pants and thin top that covers your skin for no skin contact. Flip Flips. If you were shorts in hot weather - If you’ll be in a hot car, bring a towel to sit on to avoid sweating.
Rainy Weather: Bring an umbrella, jacket, rain boots, and full coverage clothing. Rain and spray tan are not friends… COVER UP!
Additional Guidance
Medical Conditions or Pregnancy: Check with your doctor if you're unsure. We have many clients who are pregnant or have medical conditions, but it’s always safest to confirm.
Allergies: Let me know! Our formulas are vegan and natural but may contain ingredients like walnut extract, elderberry, or aloe.
While Your Tan Develops
No sweating, crying, applying makeup, or getting wet for 12 hours after your tan.
If you got an accelerated tan, follow the rinse instructions carefully (30 minutes to 5 hours post-application) and avoid lotions, makeup, and sweat for another 12 hours after rinsing.
If you were unable to follow the prep instructions exactly, your tan may not last as long or may develop unevenly.
